This has been the kind of week that makes me remember why I run this bookshop. If I’m honest, I am generally a fiction trash hound. I love a good story - usually the crazier the better - and spend less time with memoirs or non-fiction…BUT, I was so lucky this week to meet with not one but two people who were strong and brave enough to share their memoirs with me. I literally can’t imagine writing about myself and then actually showing it to someone! It’s amazingly brave and brilliant putting yourself out in the world in that way. I felt so honored that they would share their stories with me. One of the memoirs is from a brilliant woman I befriended many years ago, who wrote it privately for her family and friends, the other a prolific song writer, writing to encourage others to put themselves out there and to support a not for profit he cares about. (More on this release soon. You’re going to need a copy).

I am feeling so blessed to do this job which allows me to interact with fascinating folks and be a part of a community that fosters a place of sharing and support. If you’ve ever considered writing a memoir, sharing a story with your family, keeping a journal, let this be the encouragement you need. Share yourself. August 1 seems like just the right time to get started.
