Back to school books

This week every year brings in the height of anxiety for so many families…getting the backpacks out, organizing the family calendar, teacher assignments in the mail box, calls from friends near and far reconnecting, broken hearts over best friends not being in sections, the list of terrors goes on. It happens every year, but every year it feels like a surprise. How did the summer go so fast? Why didn’t I do any of the things I wanted to do, what happened to the adventures, the projects, the trips? Uggh. Fall.

Yet, here we are and there’s a long weekend waiting for you. Take the time to snuggle, fit in the ice cream trips, laze about and hang out in a pool, call a friend and get the families together, take the pressure down a notch. Honestly, if you don’t have the right pen or the correct notebook on day one….nothing will happen. Not one thing. Take the weekend instead to chat with the kids, face the fears, slow down, pick out first day outfits, talk about how to make it easy on yourself and on the kids. The year will come whether you are hyper ready for it or not.

I always found that reading about first day blues and anxieties helped. Maybe it’s the process of reading a book together, perhaps it’s the start of a conversation, or it’s just a new and fun story to think about. Here are some favorites, old and new…happy reading and happy Labor Day.
