Maria Becomes a Butterfly

August 25: KID SPEAKEASY WEEK. Recent Fox Lane graduate and author, Maria Chinchilla will read from her new picture book “Maria Becomes a Butterfly”, a bilingual story. Just like the mariposas monarcas, at the age of seventeen, María Chinchilla left everything that was familiar to migrate from Guatemala to New York. In her first published children’s book, with pictures and words, María Chinchilla beautifully tells the story of how she weathered tormentas, discovered her superpowers, and finally found a sense of belonging. This story will resonate with not only young readers who have their own immigration experiences, but also with anyone who has ever struggled to make a new place feel like home.
