“When global climate change and economic crises lead to social chaos in the early 2020s, California becomes full of dangers, from pervasive water shortage to masses of vagabonds who will do anything to live to see another day. Fifteen-year-old Lauren Olamina lives inside a gated community with her preacher father, family, and neighbors, sheltered from the surrounding anarchy. In a society where any vulnerability is a risk, she suffers from hyperempathy, a debilitating sensitivity to others' emotions.
On a Mission
Chloe Melas (Luck of the Draw) and Margot Clark-Junkins (Following the Front) will discuss the extraordinary experiences of their grandfathers, two courageous men who saw it all during WWII, with Q&A to follow.
Melas, NBC’s Entertainment Correspondent, and Clark-Junkins, a writer and native of Westchester, wanted to bring their grandfathers’ stories to light.

“What would you do if you found out one day that the Artificial Intelligence that ran everything was lazy, dishonest, and not quite as bright as it seemed? That there might be a way to outwit the Network, in spite of its oppression, and maybe to find love, and something like a future, in the ruins of a desolate world? If you didn’t die trying, that is?”

Just Love
We LOVE Valentine’s Day. Not the over sold, over promised date night Valentine’s Day, but the one that promises a light in the dark days of winter, a little sweet treat or a kind deed for a friend or neighbor or your spouse or kids. We love the snuggle of it, the thoughtfulness, the chance to say “I love you” no matter who you say it to. Pop by and take a look at some books, make some cards, create some happiness.
