Roe V. Wade
Might as well “wade” straight into the deep waters right? I am an abortion’s right proponent. A believer in choice and the right to determine your future. A staunch supporter of Planned Parenthood and birth control and have been for years. I have worked at a Planned Parenthood clinic as an educator, I have been a vocal supporter of choice, and a financial supporter of Planned Parenthood and numerous other pro-choice organizations since I first started donating money to anyone.
My grandmother was a Planned Parenthood supporter. She was a doctor, and one of five women in her medical school class. She was a bad ass before Alzheimer’s took her mind. My family taught me never to back down, to support those who couldn’t speak for themselves, and that you have the right to make choices about your body that are uniquely your own.
When Roe was overturned I offered a matching donation to anyone donating to pro-choice organizations. Together with numerous donors we were able to pour over $40,000 in to organizations at a time we all needed empowering support. Folks asked me how to determine where to give and I had a couple of tips. Give to orgs in areas where abortion rights are at risk. Give to orgs providing direct care. Give to national orgs supporting individual rights through advocacy and legal action. Give monthly, set up a repeating gift if you can afford it. No gift is too small, and each donation gives the staff at those orgs the information that someone is rooting them on.
